God Loves Penny Candy Too!

Story finds me, even when it's not supposed to. I swear. It's not my fault! Today we had a second collection, and on those days, I  often feel sorry for the very nice man that passes the basket. The second collection is an exercise in futility in these economic times. But that's not what struck me this day.

The basket was passed a few rows in front of me and I watched as a boy of about seven or eight knelt up on the pew and tried to put a couple bucks in after he'd missed his chance in his own row.
He obviously hadn't processed the fact that his mom had given him as many of those  green paper suckers as she did. He stared at the cash with eyes wide. "Whoops!" he said then. And in a flash, he grabbed back a dollar or two from his initial donation. A look of relief and a devilish smile spread over his face once he'd rescued his bucks. It amused me and the man passing the basket, "Candy money!" I whispered. He laughed and I did too. I'd have done the very same thing. That's why my dad never trusted me with more than a nickel, a dime or once in a big while, a quarter!

A very cute story. Keep those powers of observation going! Kids provide us with unlimited material, don't they? I'm sure that's what keeps you going every day.

You better believe it! What I do miss most about the little guys, though, I have to admit, is the steady stream of hilarity that peppered my dinner table all those years. Not so sure my family enjoyed it as much as I did, though. Should've written it ALL down!

You said it, Tommy. You could have published it and made your fortune!

Hee-hee...we're having a little blogger identity crisis. Seems Mr. Lynch was in his blog, didn't log out (on my computer)...so I was him! Is that confusing? ;)

Yeah, I'm still scratching my head over that. I wondered how he got into your page. Anyway, it was nice talking to him. Maybe the two of us could have lunch one day. How about it? Is he on Facebook?

I'm afraid to let him loose on FB!! He'll be all over my biz! He's taking piano lessons now, and practices for at least 2 hrs. a day!!!!!!! That's why I was out in the cottage today!

We always knew God has a sweet tooth, now didn't we? And a sense of humor to match!

I had no favorites either...it was the sum total of all that was in that little white bag that mattered. I did love those little waxy bottles with the juice inside...oh, and the lik-a-maid!! Yum!
